Pet Vaccination FAQs

What are Pet Vaccinations?

Pet vaccinations carry inactive or dead versions of diseases that can pose a threat to your pet's health. These diseases are not active and allow your pet to create antibodies to help protect them against the illness without having to experience the symptoms of the disease itself.

What Diseases Do Pet Vaccinations Work For?

Pet vaccinations are designed to prevent a wide range of diseases. Some of these diseases include:

  • Distemper
  • Herpes virus
  • Parvovirus
  • Hepatitis
  • Rabies

All of these are deadly diseases that can seriously pose a risk to your pet's health, leading to liver failure, fatigue, and eventually death. Therefore, it's important to protect your pet against these potentially fatal diseases by administering vaccines.

Are they Safe?

Pet vaccinations are relatively safe for your pets. However, there is a small chance that your pet might have an allergic reaction to a pet vaccine. Fortunately, when they are administered by a vet, your veterinarian will examine your pet for any potential adverse reactions. This usually happens after a vaccine, so your pet will be kept under close watch for about 15 minutes. If there is an adverse reaction, which is rare, your veterinarian will conduct treatment right away to help your pet find relief.

When Does My Pet Need Vaccines?

In general, we perform most routine vaccinations starting between 6-8 weeks of age.  If you have recently adopted a pet and are unsure of their previous vaccination history, we recommend they receive booster vaccines to help protect them. Talk to your veterinarian, who will determine what vaccines your pet needs and if they are up to date.
